Here is the only hint I will provide: a picture from the first day of BHCC 2009.

Kevin sold his FJ40? :)

Guy forgot to load his rig back up after BHCC and didn't realize it till he got home? :hill:

Cruiser fell through the cracks of the trailer on the way home leaving only the tool box?

Tool box was not locked and rolled out and off the trailer?

Romer

Sold his truck while getting a new tire on his trailer to someone who came by and asked to buy it . . . . . Just a guess

Anyone know of a good 80 for our friend

RicardoJM

Our Canadian member found out he needs a new rear sill because his tailgate fell off. Years of northern elements finally took their toll when the weight of the spare tire combined with the jostling of the trail caused the final and complete failure of the sill.

As will happen to all our rigs, rust eventually got the better of his trusty old 40. As it was being trailered along he highway, the wind simply blew away the rust, leaving the aluminum tailgate behind.

See post 7.

Yup Romer couldn't play along and spilled the beans. Big Blue FJ is now another Canadians and Kevin has a fist full of money and is 80 hunting. He would love for us to find a loaded/locked 80, preferably already lifted and bumpered, check it out for him and he will fly up for the Rally and take it back to Kanook land.

Doesn't the 80 in Matt Farr's garage meet these criteria???? I do remember that it is blue.

So why didn't the 40 tailgate go with the truck?

Hulk
07-23-2009, 10:26 AM
The tailgate was actually attached to his tool box. The new owner of his FJ40 didn't want the tool box, so Kevin kept it.

Kevin is indeed on the hunt for an 80. Here's one nearby (http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdLargeImage?AdId=142208592&back=-4&ImageIndex=0) (to him) that he has his eye on. Of course, he'd love to have one with some armor on it already.

Romer did indeed spill the beans a little early. Ken, please don't talk about Santa Claus around my kids, k?

:lmao: - What is funny is Romer's "guess" sounded so implausible to me that I completely dismissed it :hill:...Really, who stops to get a new trailer tire and ends up selling the rig loaded on said trailer to someone that actually has $$ to buy the rig? I'll admit though, having never seen Kevin's old (now) 40 in person that I didn't recognize the tool box/tailgate picture as being part of the now departed 40 :)

Unless you get a smokin' deal, don't buy one w/o lockers. And $7k is not a smokin' deal.

amen. NOT WORTH IT when you can hold out for a locked one. IMHO, adding lockers to any vehicle is a pain that should be avoided. Much better to put that time to better use in other areas of the vehicle. especially since on the street market, lockers do not add much to the asking price.

adding springs and bushings/arms to a mall cruiser is much more effective in the results per minute category if you have a locked vehicle already.

MDH33
07-29-2009, 07:59 AM
So what IS a smokin' deal on an 80? (not that I'm interested in buying one ;) )

I browse Craigslist all the time and I rarely see low mileage 95-97 locked 80's.

nakman
07-29-2009, 08:13 AM
Smokin' on a locked 95-97 would be under $8k, IMO. And if I were buying one I wouldn't be too concerned with high miles since you're probably going to do a head gasket as PM. And I wouldn't care about maintenance history since half the fun is pulling all those axles apart anyway. I'd pay more attention to how nice the vehicle was inside, what's leaking, if anything, how do the brakes work, and how rusty some of the bolts are.. which would be an indication of how easy it'll be to work on it in the future.

Yeah. Even without the head gasket which would be around $2k, you could easily spend $2k just to get a used 80 up to snuff. Front end service, front & rear brakes, fluids, driveshaft u-joints, tune up. Oh yeah, and a cup holder and CDL switch. :) Then there's another chunk to spend on armor.
