View Full Version : What do you think of this tread?

I may have found some MT's for the Pig, but I am not sure what to think about this cracking along the tread?

What do you all think?

I would not trust those on the Hwy:eek:

definite dry rot, looks to be fairly deep.

x3.. what's the "born on" date?

Looks like the 35" BFG MTs that came on my 40...Great tread left but they were like 10-12 years old and showing signs of dry rot...Was the one on the left the spare? It looks pretty good compared to the other two.

I wouldn't trust those for anything but a trail only rig where if it blows going 5 mph your biggest issue is having to change it. I think most tire manufacturers recommend replacing tires now, regardless of tread left, at 6 years old max.

I'm not sure, I'll find out.

It looks like the other two in the pic do not have the cracking or dry rot, so maybe make the cracked one a spare?

What kind of a liability is the dry rot? Will the lugs start breaking off when the tire flexes?

Picture yourself and family on a high Colorado shelf road attempting an off camber obstacle when a down hill tire blows out. Then ask yourself if saving the money is worth it? Just my $0.02

That weather checked tire will probably be OK and have no issues. Fact is you just can't place you and your families lives on that gamble!

I'd run them. But my truck doesn't typically go faster than 0 mph.
