Where are you guys mounting it? I was really proud of my Yaesu install in the Tacoma; especially that I went ahead and pre-wired it for a speaker. But since then, the speaker has been floating around under my drivers seat because I haven't been able to pick the right spot: console, headliner, headrest, B-pillar....

Input and ideas welcome.

Can you hear it ok down there? Does the speaker aim toward the floor, or toward you?

Right behind the B pillar, on the soft top frame. Aimed right at the back of my head. Just right.

The CB ext. speaker is right in the corner of my dash nearly on the A pillar. Also just right. Industrial velcro'd in place, no holes.

I mounted mine under the dash in my Hilux right in the middle, to the right of the parking brake lever. I angled it up slightly and it's so loud that I cover it with one of those sticky pads used to hold your PDA/smartfone to the dash. That mostly removes the harsh treble-ness.

I need a super-duper-loud speaker for my 40. What kind are you using?

I need a super-duper-loud speaker for my 40. What kind are you using? It is apparently a no-longer-avail item I got at Radio Shack. I'll see if there's a stock number on it and post back in a few.

Martin, it may be catalog only:
Model: 21-549 (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2036240&y=8&x=15&retainProdsInSession=1)
Catalog #: 21-549
$25.99

I can't find an impedance rating on it anywhere. Maybe it's 8 Ohms and my ham rig is only 2 or 4 output, making for a hotter audio level?

here's where I put mine for my CB. I like it. I got it from HRO.

The Ham radio has a front mount speaker so it works fine.

also a cool shot of Tim's Mic mount... suuuper cool  :)

Marco, how much was the MFJ? Looks a lot like the old Motorola CSP surplus unit I used to have.

I've got that same MFJ - I think it was around $15-18 shipped from one of the popular on-line HAM outfits.

Pretty sure that is the same MFJ that Bill has in Red Chili.

From HRO's Site (which is not that easy to navigate)

Manufacturer: MFJ
Item : MFJ-281
Description : CLEARTONE SPEAKER
YOUR HRO PRICE $12.95
Stock status: IN STOCK

I really like it. It made my CB go from annoying and noisy to literally sounding almost as good as the HAM.

Martin, if you buy the MFJ and it's not loud enough for you, I'll gladly trade you.
