So I'd like to get me my hands on an OEM bottle jack. How many handle extensions do I need for the complete set?

Well I bit this one off.

I figure I can fix the bent rod and disassemble, make sure everything works and is greased, and repaint.

Doesn't look like the primer was applied very carefully....

I might have some of the rod/handle pieces if you are interested...

I think this one is complete. There was another one that was missing some stuff, and that's why I asked.

Just thinking if you can't straighten the bent rod :thumb: - I'm pretty sure I kept the handle/rod from my '76 when I sold it. I didn't have the OEM bottle jack so no sense in including the handle/rod

Gad, why did he paint it green? Stock color is yeller.

I'm sure it will look much better when you have restored it. :thumb:

"Please not a ton of questions"

I dislike that attitude in a seller

I hope it works for you Matt.

If not, I am sure you can find some at the Rally. If not, I bet John at Coyote up here has some.

Wish I had tuned in to this earlier...

I still have some yellow paint that's an exact match for oem.

I have two bottles jacks (both from 60's) they are brown...out of curiosity, anyone know when they went brown.

Hmmmm. My 1997 HZJ75 factory bottle jack was brown.

80 series bottle jacks are black. I think I have 3 of them. Maybe 4.

I've got all of the stock jack stuff from my 60 if you want it.

CJ had one for sale at the rally. It was rust colored.

Where did the OEM bottle jack mount in an FJ40? The one I got included brackets for the handle extensions  I'm guessing under the seat but am not 100% sure...

I might be repainting it this weekend...that is if I don't have anything else to do

And what is the limit on how high it can be raised?

My '78 40 mounts the jack under the driver seat and mounts the extensions on top of the PS rear fenderwell

Ditto on my old '76. At least that is where the brackets were when I took them off...

I think you basically got all your answers in that thread right? The pieces I got are #1 - I got two of them.

Yup, got my answers...didn't know if that of those pics would help. Like I think I've got some of those rod holders in the pic.

I picked up some paint at NAPA today - Krylon 1819 - Old Equipment Yellow!

Does anybody know how heigh the jack can extend? I saw the warning label on Shane's thread on MUD:

My rear fenders have been replaced and holes drilled for the jump seats but not for the stock jack handle mount. Something I might have to remedy someday...

What size is the bolt head supposed to be on the extension rod? I assume it would be standard JIS M8 (12 mm), but not sure...

Little update here...finally got it painted. Probably not the best paint job in the world, but it's the correct color and, well, this jack's gonna have to earn its keep.

I still don't really know how high I can raise it (at least according to Shane's sticker). And I didn't realize the top screwed up even further until I got to looking at some pictures a little closer. Pretty cool.

i think the sun and my camera make it look brighter than it is...it's Krylon "Old Equipment Yellow" from their farm and implement line...#1819 I think. According to some it's a dead match to the OEM color...

Looks nice man!

So where does the handle mount?

subzali

the handle has a square hole in the middle that slides onto the squared off end of the extension...

oh...

there are two clips that the extensions snap into...I think they're supposed to go on the passenger rear fender...(?)

The jack goes under the driver's seat...there is supposed to be an angle brace that the jack pushes up against (along with the lip of the tub at the center seam) to keep it in place - I don't have that piece...

EDIT: Wes knows more than I do, so listen to him...

What year is your 40, Matt? I can snap pics of my jack and handle in their stock location. I think you have the handle position correct. I'm trying to picture where the jack is located.

That's where the clips on my '76 were, under the rear PS jumpseat...I still have the extensions, and clips I think. I never had the bottle jack but I'm pretty sure Matt is correct on that as well, maybe depending upon the year.

Everyone who has answered is correct about where the handles mount. There are clips for it behind the right jump seat against the quarter panel above the inner fender.

On both my 76 FJ40 and my 78 FJ45, the jack mounts under the left (driver's) seat. In the photo below, you can the bracket that sticks up from the floorboard for the top of the jack. You put the jack in there and then extend it by hand until it is snug between the bracket and the part where the step is at the back of the front section of the floor pan.

but on Marco's '82 it might be different, more like Hulk's '81...
