As a sales person at a Toyota/Ford/Kia dealership, I can say that there are two reasons for this.
1. Toyota is buying paper (loans) stronger than any of the big three. So if said customer has questionable credit they have a better chance of getting financed on a Toyota.
2. Availability. More qualifying vehicle choices from the imports, and in most cases more inventory on the ground.
But just about anything that qualifies at our dealership are now sold. Leaving us with a half empty parking lot, the other half are Super Duties from the blue oval. And a few midsize and fullsize SUV's. What still kills me every day is the steady stream of people walking in the door looking to trade a "clunker". Most have no clue about the details after over a month in the media.
