View Full Version : Vyborg, Russia "built" 80

On Monday I was in Vyborg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vyborg), Russia on the Baltic Sea and the border of Finland. As usual I was looking for Cruisers. Built Cruisers are incredibly rare in Russia although expedition built Land Rovers are pretty common.

Anyway, I saw the 80 below and made my colleague turn around so I could get a picture to post. He thought I was crazy and had no idea I had a cruiser fixation. He did turn around and I managed to capture these pictures as the owner was pulling away. This was a diesel too!:)

Neat. BTW, boes anyone know about those fender flares (the rubber tabs, not the stock trim parts)? I've seen them often on trucks featured in Australian 4WD magazines, too, and wondered who made them.

Cooper tires :)
Someone spent some time on those bumpers. Are they one-offs or production?

I like the hitch the best.
The twin rear wipers are interesting too. Reminds me of a Camry station wagon.

That hitch style is the norm in the EU and Rus. No interchangeable balls/hitches on cars and light trucks.

My favorite grafitti was at the Vyborg Castle. It translates roughly to: "Beware cimmunist border gruards because capitalist Finland is very close." This was obviously fro the Cold War and the Castle is very close to the border with Finland.

I saw this on Leninsky Prospekt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leninsky_Prospekt_%28Moscow_Metro%29) in Moscow yesterday. I think the snorkel is pretty interesting. This is one of the most built rigs I have seen in Russia.

I can only imagine how much that stuff cost the guy in fractions of a workday's wages...

Have you seen any of the new Moscow police cars? They were driving Ford Crown Vic's last time I was there.

I don't really remember the Crown Vic's. I think i have seen a few but what really stands out are the S series Mercedes and 7 Series BMWs; all with single blue lights. These are the cars of the government. Moscow City is very wealthy so I assume that they would have S' and 7s.
