View Full Version : Getting thru 4Runner Firewall with cable

Hey Guys,

I just got a new Firestick Whip Antenna and am trying to find a good place to get it thru the firewall of my 4Runner and thought I'd check with everyone here before drilling where I think it MIGHT work.

Anyone run into this before and have any suggestions? I've posted pictures of where the antenna mount is now and under the hood pics for suggestions as to where I could go thru.

I'd start looking up above the pedals on the firewall, usually a large part of the harness goes through somewhere around there, you ought to be able to fish it through there.

On my '85 Runner there are 3 places where wires/cables go thru. The holes have had plenty of room to use for extra stuff. I haven't had to drill anything new yet.

There is a rubber grommet thingy on the drivers side right next to the fender below the brake booster. You can actually see it in your first under hood pic. Thats where I put my wires and stuff through when I had a 4 runner. Its a little tight on the inside under the dash, but this is the closest location to your antenna mount. I always like to go through the closest location. Cheesman is right, there are plenty of places to go through and existing hole, no need to drill yet another hole in the firewall. Hope this helps

take electrical tape and wrap it around the end of the antenna wire to tie it to a coat hanger or welding rod. poke that through the grommet and find it on the other side, then fish the rest through.

Awesome! Great advice guys. I really appreciate it. I'll try the coat hanger trick in thru an existing grommet. The CB antenna sales guy gave me the brilliant idea of drilling, LOL. :)

Well I was able to pass the cable through the firewall through an existing passthru as you guys said. I just followed where the hood release cable went thru, used the coat hanger trick, and it was a cinch.

Thanks again for all of your help!
