I just got a set of 4" springs from Downey, for my 79 FJ40. The people from downey said they should bolt right on, with no modification. I was thinking I might need some type of shim to make the driveshafts hit at the right angle.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks.

Lift kit leaf springs can be designed to rotate the pinion properly. What would mess that equation up is longer or different shackles (unless the leafs are designed for said longer or different shackles).

You won't know if you need shims until you intall and measure - maybe you'll get lucky.

I will be using the original shakles, so it sounds like I will be ok.

Thanks.

you will have to drill out the u-bolt plates, for the center bolt.thats what i had to do.
i strongly recomend removing a leaf out of those packs, they are pretty stiff springs.then when they sag put it back in or substitute it with a stock spring.thats my plan, but havent gotten to it yet.good luck
