OK, so the search for a new starter for this 1955 chevy bel air (maybe??) has taken Timztoy and I over 20 hours of mind numbingly frustrated time. SOO....since I probably want to swap in a 2f (and a 4 speed) anyway...and Tim has the time and skills to help...I am seriously thinking of doing this swap....and get it done in time for the 40's only run. I know I know....crazy talk...but Tim is good and has time to work on it...

So...anyone know of a running 2f for cheap? A 4 speed tranny and tcase would be cool too, but not a necessity...or advice...etc.

Thanks!

Timm

Ok so you're going to put a 2F into a 55 Chevy and take it on the 40's only run?

I have an 87 FJ60 2F w/ 161k in pieces in my garage. However, I sold the head, valves, and valve cover just a few days ago. If only I had known, I would have hung on to it. Anyone here have a spare head and valves?

 you're swapping an engine because you don't have a starter for it?

could an admin please change the title to WTB 2f with 4 speed tranny and tcase

went to the "chevy trucks only" junk yard...struck out. Very well organize place though, I was pretty impressed. A *little* better that the Yota Yard. So I was thisclose to starting to tear out the motor and grabbing a F from a buddy when I decided to try one more place...the Autozone manager the other night (the one by me is open until 10 on Saturday!!) had mentioned a place near here that did a lot of starter and alternator work. I gave them a call and he said he had a couple of 55 bel air starters! No way! I ran over there at lunch, and my starter was not a 55 bel air but a 58-63 Chevy car inline 6 starter. Of course he had one. $118 with tax and I now have a starter!! I cannot recommend these guys enough. Very knowledgeable and very cool and have just about every starter ever made.

So still want to get a good 2F with 4 speed but not in a huge hurry anymore. One step closer to the 40's only run!!!!!!!

Excellent, get that installed and then off to emissions testing:thumb:. D and D is the shop I was thinking about this morning. I had them rebuild the alternator (http://risingsun4x4club.org/forum2/showpost.php?p=106052&postcount=24) that I put in during my power steering conversion.
