I picked up a Harbor Freight smack-it screwdriver today for $10.38, thought that was a good deal. they were on close out, so I don't know if that means there will soon be no more, or soon be a cheaper better one. But I needed one so now I got one.

Beyond FF rears I'm not sure where they're useful but for those it's pretty indispensable. :thumb:

They are useful all over the place. No toolbox should be without one.

Discovered that back when all motorcycles had Phillips fasteners.

Wow did I just date myself.

I had to get one a while back for something but can't remember what it was now. Think it was truck related. Pretty sure. It's the Craftsman one, no idea what I paid for it.

I had one of the HF drivers seize, so I bought a good one later. The bits I had left over from the HF tool shattered in the better driver.

This tool is indispensable for the giant philips head screws on the FJ40 windshield hinges. :thumb:

Well we'll see how long this one lasts.. so far my only real need has been the back hub, so that's 4 smacks every 3-4 years. I'll try to come up with some more uses..

I must be living in the dark ages...What is a "smack-it screwdriver"

Does it look like this?

Exactly- you have to smack it to operate. Aren't you pulling your rear axles? Do you have one? need the #3 Philips bit..

I'll loan you mine but I need it next Thursday night. You can have it before/after though, lemme know!

Then again, it's $10..

Any 40 owner without one will strip every screw until he gets one... ;)

Thanks for the offer Tim, but it looks like it is something I should pick up and keep on hand :thumb:

I've been getting this "Automobile" magazine for some unknown reason and the only good thing about it really is that each month there is a 15-20% off one item coupon for Harbor Freight in each issue. I'll have to bring some of them to the next meeting for any that need a coupon.
