View Full Version : Sad Day

Hi all!
As I have never posted on here before, I'm James. I came to the last monthly meeting and lurked in the back. I plan on coming to this months meeting as well tomorrow so maybe I can introduce myself some more. Anyways, thats not the point of the post.

I was down in Denver yesterday to pull a Distributor, coil, and side cover off of a fj60 in a junk yard. When I arrived and saw the truck it looked perfect! Not something you would expect to see in a yard. No dents, rust, chipped paint, nothing! The woman who led me to it explained that all the vehicles in this area of the yard (24 + vehicles) were "Cash for Clunkers". At first I felt pride for a fj looking this good and obviously being the oldest truck in the area but then I realized that most of them were less than 10 years old. As most of you are probably aware, after they turned in the vehicle, they put a chemical into the oil fill of the engine and ran it until it seized. This fj had only 76k miles on it. The engine looked beautiful.

Its a sad day when our government (for our supposed benefit), destroys perfectly running vehicles to save our environment. I'm willing to bet that 2f was getting around 17 to 18 mpg. My 01 taco gets that now driving to Black Hawk and back everyday. Most of us could use atleast one part off that rig to keep our 2f's running longer, therefor staving off buying a new engine. It makes me boil inside.

what'll boil your blood is watching some of the youtube videos that actually show it happening!

Yep we have all seen the injustice at the junk yards.....there is a CFC thread here on the site you should check it out.

I pulled from an 85 fj60. Looked pretty similar. I guess so many lazy individuals felt that getting around 4k for their "clunker" was easier than trying to sell for more. I can understand the mentality, just can't condone it.

Badwrench. Its just west of Sheridan and 11th. Drive west on 11th about 1/2 mile, make your first right and its on the right.

Its a brown fj60, still has the seats in it, front quarters were gone though.

Hope that helps.
