View Full Version : Carb Work

I have a 73 Aisan Carb that I'd like to have ported for vac advance. Is there anyone in town that can do this? How much do you think is a fair price for this work?

I think Mark Alghazy at Mark's Offroad (http://www.marksoffroad.net/) can do it. Not sure about anyone in town but it might be worth calling some machine shops. Seems like a simple procedure if you have the tools and know where and at what angle to drill it.

Yeah, I'm aware of the guys on MUD but I was hoping to have it done locally for a couple reasons. 1: I'm an instant gratification type of person, 2: I always like supporting local people. Is there a carb place in Denver? Or the front range?

I am in the same boat. Both Mark's Offroad and Jim Chenworth offer the service to do this. I've researched it and reached the conclusion that while it is very straightforward (http://www.ih8mud.com/tech/carbinfo.php) if not done correctly it will ruin the carb base. I'll be watching this thread as I also would like to get this done on a 72 carb I am rebuilding.

Try Import Carbs (http://www.importcarbs.com/). They're on 52nd in Wheat Ridge.

I have had this done to both my 71 and my 76 carbs by Jim Chenoweth. After seeing what he did, and spending many hours on the phone with him, Mark Algazy and Mark Whatley, I feel empowered to do my own next time and have a reasonable chance of success.
To your direct question of how much $ is fair? Well, there would be little reason to do it with out a complete rebuild at the same time. Teardown, soak and thorough cleaning, then reassembly with new power valves, throttle enrichment plunger, new gaskets, etc. Rejet as needed at the same time. $200 for a minimum, $300 for a maximum is the going rate. It is mostly labor, kits are generally around $30-$50.
I know of no one locally who knows these Aisin carbs as well as either Jim in OH or Mark in CA. Blackdiamond, what is your name?
