Well it turns out to be an O2 sensor is what we came up with not to sure so we cleared it and it seems fine for now so going to do a tune up and see if it comes back..

If it said O2 sensor, doing a tune-up won't effect it. Why don't you replace the two O2 sensors?

bigbluefj
12-25-2009, 12:35 AM
Going to do that also where's a good place to get said O2 sensors??

Kevin,

If you don't have a local place that gives you a good deal on OEM parts you could try CDan (cruiserdan) on MUD...I'm sure you've met him either at CM or the Rubithon...His wife is the one that put the purdy stickers on some of the trucks :D

Not sure if he ships to Canada? IIRC orders over $100 that are not heavy/bulky ship free but maybe duty fees would outweigh the savings...

I've been talking to Cdan about a power steering pump so i will be calling him on this also..

So does toyota have plugs and wires or shouldi get aftermarket for those??

I'd go only OE for the wires. Plugs? NGK I think.

OEM on the wires for sure and just as easy to go with what CDan will ship you on the plugs as well :)

The #6 plug is a PITA to get to but if you have the OEM tool bag in the back Toyota put the perfect tools in there to get to the #6 plug - at least it seemed that way to me :hill:

No way you actually use those tools? I never think of that... I've always just done a 5/8" deep socket and a 12" extension, duct taped together. wiggling around those heater lines is the only tough spot, but can be done with a little patience. Just watch where you're leaning so you don't Romer your radiator.

Sometimes you can find good advice/tips on MUD :hill: - I definitely didn't come up with the thought on my own :o

Speaking of tune ups....

What is the recommended interval on plugs, wires, rotor, and cap?

I bought two sets of everything back when and did the LX but when I went to do the 80 I noticed the wires were marked 2007 IIRC (might be 2006). The LX wires were original 1997 wires but obviously one of the POs had replaced the wires in the 80. I figured there was not much reason to replace pretty much newish wires with slightly newer wires so I just held onto all the parts.

Maybe replace everything with the new stuff and give away the slightly older stuff to a member in need

Kevin,

You might see if there is a Mailboxes, Etc. or a UPS Store in a Montana town just south of the Canadian border. I found these two addresses with a Google search:

UPS Supply Chain Solutions‎
309 2nd Street, Sweet Grass, MT‎ 59011 - (406) 335-2211‎

UPS Supply Chain‎
219 Bank St, Sweet Grass, MT‎ 59011 - (406) 335-2035‎

Sweetgrass, Montana is about 3 hours, 45 minutes from Calgary -- a bit farther from Canmore.

On the other hand: Babb, Montana is a bit closer: only 3 hours, 15 minutes from Calgary. Surely they have a post office. Maybe you can just rent a P.O. box (although then CDan wouldn't be able to ship UPS).

Why won't CDan ship to Canada?

If you can't find another solution, you can have CDan ship to me and I can ship it to Canada for you.

Call Derek at Stevenson Toyota (Lakewood, CO) and ask if he will ship to Canada or Jerry at Boulder Toyota. I think the O2 sensors were about $140 each

Make sure you tell them your with Rising Sun

Just buy the stuff from CDan, Derek, or Jerry like others suggested and one of us can send it up to you :D - unless there is something really odd with mailing stuff to Canada it shouldn't be that hard  - maybe CDan and others have just decided it is too much of a hassle with customs and stuff getting lost for them to deal with it?

I just checked USPS.com and for a flat rate, priority mail box to Canada the cost is $26 for a medium box or $33 for a large box. Might want to add some additional insurance to that. Or, send the stuff UPS I guess?

Heck, if you are in a hurry I could send you the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires (sorry, I don't have any O2 sensors to send) and I think I even have a PCV and grommet as well that I have and you could just have CDan send your parts to me or I could pick up the parts at Stevinson from Derek in January. The only caveat is that the plug wires are new (i.e. never used) but are from 2007 or 2008 and stamped such.

Kevin, have you tried CALLING Canyon Creek Toyota and telling them you're a member of the Land Cruiser Club?

If you want to call the local Toyota dealer that I use here, call Groove Toyota 303-789-6566. Joe and Jerry are the 2 main guys, but any of them can help you. Ask for the Rising Sun discount. You are on the roster (but they probably won't look you up). You can also name drop me, Wes Worek, Chris Hatfield, Dave Armbruster, Neil Quigley, Bill Morgan, Cheeseman, etc....

You can also call Stevinson Toyota West, which is where we hold the RS meetings. 800-584-0716.

If they guys at Groove cannot ship the stuff, i will go down there pick the stuff up and ship it to you.... just send me a PM... i know that Wes, Matt, Greg, Chris and myself are in there so often they know us by name... They are GREAT guys... I also buys parts from Cdan, and Stevenson, but the guys at Groove (formorly Burt) have always been great, and let me know when they think a price is a bit steep... Jerry in Boulder is awsome, but boulder is a hike for me....

So all parts are ordered, Cdan is sending them to robbie's and then robbie is going to mail them to me from his place..

Plug's/wire's, cap/rotor, pcv, fuel filter/ air filter.. is what i picked up from Cdan..
