Just want to make sure I've got the pieces and order correct. It all seems fine and dandy during tear down, but then after a couple nights sleep the parts seem less clear......

#1 and #4 are the metal pieces that came off during the tear down? #1 shows as a single piece in the picture, but in reality it is two metal half circles to protect the felt - correct? #2 is the felt and #3 is the rubber gasket from the rebuild kit?

And #6 is the gold piece from the rebuild kit that goes outside the spindle? In the picture below, it's the large diameter seal in the plastic bag immediately below the cardboard box?

Thanks.

Looks right compared to the 80 series...I haven't done my 40 though...

On my LX & 80 when I serviced the front axles I got new #1s & #4s with the "kit" but maybe they do it different with the 40s :)

Looks like you got it right Matt. Also looks like you have new star washers, which is probably the most important part of the bunch IMO, next to the seals.

But heck I've reused #1's, #2's, #3's, #4's and #6's in the past... :hill:

You got it all there bud, one trick I was told of during break down was to use toilet paper for clean up... grease and poo are actually very similar- for some people I guess

You are on the right track and good to check. I tossed my #1/#4 parts and ended up having to buy a wiper kit to get them:o.

im going to missouri to get all my stuff.. finally woohoo which includes a compete 85 solid axle so i might bring that to the wheel bearing packing party for a whole 100% rebuild if thats allowed.. are we suposed to bring our own parts, or is there going to be a suply of parts there ?
