Can anybody help shed some light on this?

Trying to figure out if I need to get a different alternator bracket, or if I have some weird setup..

My first thought was also that the bracket was AC related. I was thinking FJ60, but maybe 62? The alternator on the FJ60 mounts high and has the tension adjuster on it. and the AC pump hangs below. I'll look at mine and see how similar it is to what you have there.

Edit: My thread about 2F blocks and Mike's info about date codes has me thinking you should check yours and see what you're working with.

Good Idea, I just ran out there and looked.. the date code is 10811

so according to the code its an August 81' motor.

Just looked at the 60 and it's similar, but not the same. My guess is that's an FJ40 AC bracket and the alternator should go on top. Do you have the openings in the firewall for the AC lines?

yeah it has the openings for the AC lines. I kinda thought that somebody had popped them open for something else. I doubt it had AC since as Bruce noticed the carb dosent have the AC idle up thinggie. Also missing the vacuum port for it on the manifold.

I think I have the wrong alternator bracket though. Matt sent me a picture of his truck and it loks like it has the cast iron bracket that hold the alternator higher.

Just seems weird, because the aluminum bracket I have looks very stock.. and the location fo the 40 AC compressor I guess is supposed to be under the alternator.

Maybe this is an aftermarket kit remminant?

Does anybody have a stock alternator bracket for a 2F?

Pretty sure I have the wrong bracket. Looking for a new one that puts the alternator in the stock location.

I may be missing something or recalling things incorrectly. In the picture your alternator is hanging from the bracket. In the 2F set ups I am familiar with the alternator sits on top of the bracket. Just move the alternator to the top, not a great picture but this is how my 2F bracket and alternator placement is.

it dosen't fit on top of the bracket without pretty heavy modification, the "ears" on the bracket are too far apart.... I need the bracket similar to the one you have.

So from the Mud Thread, it looks like I have a Vintage Air compressor mount that fits a sanden compressor on top, and moved the alternator to the bottom. Very interesting. Thanks to everybody who gave input on this :). I guess with this bracket one could do an on board air setup pretty easily. Kinda neat.

I was thinking about this last night. You might actually be able to get the bracket from Toyota. If not, I'm sure SOR has it if you want it ASAP.

The OBA setup sounds pretty cool. Do you already have a pulley with an extra groove for another belt to run it?

Treeroot said he may have one, so I am going to go that direction just to have it nice and stock (I'm a geek) for now. mYabe later do OBA, but I want to get this thing going.

The bracket looks like it would put the compressor in a position to use the alternator belt and alternator as the tensioner... but the waterpump has an extra pulley now that I did the power stering and changed up the belt routing.
