View Full Version : 2F rebuild options

I am getting a spare 2F to learn how to rebuild, and I am thinking about putting in an RV cam and boring it out a little for more power. Does anybody have first-hand experience with how these mods affect the end product? Is the power improvement noticeable? How do these mods effect emissions and mileage? Any other suggestions for me to consider?

I've rebuilt 2 F motors so far. I bored them both out .30 over, that makes very little difference in terms of performance other than making the bore true and the rings to fit good. An RV cam will make it a little more peppy but don't plan on doing too many burn outs :D. An HEI distributor will give you a good strong spark and a little bit of pep but they're also pretty pricey.
A good carb rebuild and a set of headers will give you the most improvement, mostly in terms of throttle response.

I did an 0.050" head shave on mine but stayed with a stock cam to maintain good low rpm behavior. Also having to pass emissions tests kept the motor close to stock.
