Happened to see a 40 on 23rd (Aquarium on I-25) just 2 blocks West of I-25 and on the right in a parking lot. Old paper sign says for sale. Can't read much else. Fairly clean from 10' away. Nice rear rack. Maroonish in color. Looks like it hasn't moved in at least a couple months. Someone might be happy to have it gone!

The winch in the link says Pierce on it. Wasn't sure if the page had changed or if the Desert winch is identical to a Pierce. Just curious more than anything. Guy says "$200...?" So I guess it is pretty negotiable. I would spring for it, but I already have 4 winches. Wife will shoot me!

Hulk

If you look at both pictures, they are nearly identical. Pierce even sells replacement parts for the Desert Dynamics winch.

176K --> http://www.cheapcleancars.com/listings/show.php?id=407

Damn tempting to buy it just to get the supercharger :D

Technically doesn't the "seller" have to provide an emissions test per Colorado law? I know most just give a voucher so the new owner doesn't have to pay for the e-test but I believe the law (only followed by Dealers though AFAIK) is that the seller is responsible for providing the test.

It is the sellers burden...unless..seller discloses the fact that it wont pass emissions and the buyer agrees to buy as is.

That one's been for sale for at least two or three months and it has nearly 200K on it IIRC. I drove a sweet blue locked/Supercharged 97 last week. The owner let it go for just under 12K earlier this week. 118k on it and needed nothing. Hopefully, a local got it.

There is actually a Colorado State Document for a vehicle that won't pass emissions. The link can be found online and printed at home. I make sure that any vehicle I sell passes or that there is a good reason (no brakes, won't even start, etc). I always get a copy of the form signed if I sell a vehicle without emissions. Just protect my butt. Also good to note that the reason has to be listed and "missing or non-functioning" emissions parts is not a valid reason. Also if the buyer takes in that form to the DMV, they can't get temp tags. So long as the buyer doesn't present a copy, they can get the regular temp tags. All good things to know for buyers and sellers.

Interesting. It's a big single door, rather than a drop-down tailgate.

Yep, but since it doesn't come with any of the hinges/hardware, I imagine the more talented fabricators could easily turn it into a drop down tailgate, and probably even fashion an interior storage compartment :D

For $1 plus $13 shipping, if no one bids on it, I'm sure someone with a 40 could make good use of it :thumb:

I have 5k to spend on an 80, The one at the auction looks to be in good shape (Wont know till mon), i think ill be able to get it for 2-3k maybe less, if i do then ill have that extra 3k for mods. Beautiful truck -- pretty much just what I've been thinking about. I'd have to sell my 40 to buy it, though. Not sure I'm ready to make that leap.

I followed some snow cat tracks up by Lamartine a couple winters ago...he was able to keep going up the hill when my chains just dug me straight down and I had no forward movement with all fours spinning :(

Got a buddy up in Steamboat that has a couple snowcats that they use for shuttling backcountry ski runs! Pretty sweet if you're not in the mood to skin.

So two obvious questions ....

How much will it take for the "few repairs" and who's gonna do it?

What type of special permit is needed to drive tis anywhere besides Nakster's or Terry's?

I believe you can apply for a use permit with the forest service for any national forest "area" that isn't currently under permit. Not positive about the specifics though. Might be a fun winter business if you could figure out how to pull it all together. :)

FJ60 in Albuquerque
FJ60 drive train
"i've a got a '86 FJ60 just sitting on the side of the house with the complete drive train. Truck ran strong, but couldn't pass emissions so I decided to part it out/use parts for the rebuild of my FJ55. Bad turned to worse with the 55, so alas I now have two parts trucks.
I'm in Albuquerque. If you wanted to drive down, maybe we could pull it out in a day. Or heck, if you wanted it in a big FJ60 shaped carrying case, I'm sure we could work out a deal."

Maybe. I forget what Kevin has. This '78 has disc brakes and the rear is fine spline. And you also get a tranny & t-case and the dual circuit brake lines out of the deal.

Which brings up a thought....what gearing do 55's have? On 40's, the early '78 is a great snag as it has the illusive fine spline 4:11's! (>7-98 3.73 gear change happend) No idea on 55's though IH8RUST!

It is in spring under config! When you lift past 3" on a 40 you need caster correction which tips your pinion down. The front I have had a cut and turn done so pinion angle was correct with good castor with 4"+ lift. So run 4" spring under now then if you go 5" spring over later the hard put has been done....just weld on perches to the top of the housing and go wheeling!

...Don't give me time to start it. The price will rise tremendously and I really don't have time.

Update: Looks like a stuck accelerator pump on the carb. Engine tries to fire up. If I can thaw it out and unstick it she will be running, likely by monday when the price will be $2395...

SO......if he turns the key and it starts, the price goes up $800? Sorry...$795. Especially when he has had no takers at $1600 for weeks...

I dont know much about the motorhomes, don't they have the 22re's in them, so why wouldn't the swap kit from OS work?

PatrolMan
01-19-2008, 06:12 PM
Most of the motorhomes came with a 22r or 22re. There was a limited few with the 3.0 I believe. Only thing I really know is to make sure the rear axle is a true full floating dually. I guess there was a "fake" dually that was a piece of junk. Otherwise they are pretty good little rigs that get decent mileage!

Agreed, it is a lot of $ signs, but almost a 1 of a kind rig. Someone will likely pay close to what he wants, just not from this board. Always fun to look though! Too bad Toyota never made something similar, like maybe a 45 LWB crew cab?

It can be done. In fact, the swap would be exactly what I did with the Chili, and the outcome would be very desirable. The problem with gas-to-diesel swaps is emissions certification by the state for the front range. A NO-GO last I heard.

If it has a 3.0, the swap is infinitely easier (and cheaper). If it has a 22R-based powerplant, you are looking at a drivetrain swap (motor, trans, transfer if 4x4, relocating the motor ~3" forward). Certainly doable as evidenced by the Chili, but if I had it to do over I would have started with a 3.0 like ScaldedDog's. My hatred of the 3.0 must have infected my thinking...
