Last time I went into my surplus shop they didn't seem to have any ammo cans. I was in a hurry, so they might have moved them to a different building they have down the block. Anyway, they have always been sorta high on their price.

So who sells them locally still? Seems a little silly to pay $20 for a 20mm can and $15 to ship the thing, not to mention I wouldn't mind putting eyes on it to make sure it's not too beat up.

Yep Murdoch's has them and they are usally 5 bucks.

They also have burlap/rice sacks which are great for expedition type runs where you are hauling your trash for a few days..

There's an Army surplus store on Pecos just North of 36 in Denver. I've seen them there too.

I just called murdoch's and they have 2 types In Stock. One for $7.99 and one. For $9.99, she said the sizes but I didn't catch them. Somthing about .30 I'm assuming 30mm ammo can and 50cal ammo cans.

Jax in Fort C. They actually just opened a Jax mini store in Lafeyette. Dangerous store take cash and not you CC or you could find much more than you should buy!

Surplus Tools on Alameda west of Santa Fe usually has ammo cans. Just inside the front door and to the left before you even make it to the counter. His selection turns over quickly so if he doesn't have it when you go, check back later. I don't recall how much he gets for the 30 cal cans

I need to make sure I'm clear here, what I am looking for are the 20mm ammo cans, sometimes called rocket boxes by river guides (which is not necessarily 'cause they held military rockets, tho). It's what they use for their groovers. These are pretty big. Imagine something big enough to fit a toilet seat and use as portable throne. The 20mm boxes hold 100 rounds for the M61 Vulcan Gatling like on the front of Apache gunships.

The main thing is the lids have two latches and come off a lot easier than single hinge type boxes.

If you have a deep, dark seeded desire to know all about our U.S. mil-spec ammo boxes... Search on 'M-548' to find the 20mm can.

I've seen them available back home in NY, but I think shipping would kill any deal on those things.

Been looking for them too, let me know if you find some and I'll do the same. I checked both Jax locations last week, they had them but they were really banged up. I need 1 for a groover and 2 to store food. With a few minor mods the 20mm cans meet the USFS requirements for bear resistant food containers. We found out last year that Arapaho NF is starting to require BRFC's for all campers not just backpackers.

This might be something to consider. You can find them online for a decent price but shipping usually kills that. Maybe there is a way to get a bulk order, like a dozen or two, shipped on a pallet or something.

Yeah, don't need anything really specific so any of the roughly 20mm and 30mm sized cans would work, i.e. USGI M-548, M-592, PA-125, PA-156, etc.

I'm interested in this, too, if a group buy materializes. :)

Looks like they were selling for about $225 per pallet of 28 at government surplus sales auctions. Just gotta drive down to Albuquerque. On the upside they had probably a dozen or more pallets of them.

The surplus store at Hampden and B-Way has 2 20mm cans, in very good condition, and 1 30mm can, in excellent condition, left. I didn't want to be greedy :-)
