Started this project on the 4th weekend. My neighbor (JC) owns a well built FJ80 but needs sliders as the aftermarket offers very little to FJ80 owners. We started with 2"x3" square 3/16" wall for the main slider. Capped the ends and bent up some 1.5" .120 wall tube for the rub rails and kick outs. We have been using my MetalTech sliders as a starting point but making changes to suit his needs. The rub/kick up are not angled up in order to make a better step for his wife and 5yr old. JC has about half of the outriggers built. I'm happy he has been doing all the grinding work there. This project has been fun so far but Speski OffRoad will definitely not be putting these into production.

JC did so we could do a couple projects for him. Next up will be a ladder/can carrier swing arm upgrade on his existing rear bumper.

I like how the top of the square thing and the tubes are at the same height, I think he'll like life with those. Dude you're like a pro welder now.. :) :weld:

I still think my welds look like boogers :o

naw - your wire speed is just too high and your stick out too big.

Thanks for the tip. I'll turn down the speed a little. Antother possible factor is that 3/16" is maxing out my machine on 120v. I really need to get 230v run in my garage.

But this was my first time welding on round tube. I really wanted to build his ladder first as practice but he insisted on the sliders. I just hope they hold up to his 7700lb truck.

Finally getting some more time on this. Teaser of the out rigger crossing under the exhaust.

Goal is to have them on the truck by end of day tomorrow.

Well you never get as much done as you like but here is the progress. We got 5/6 of the outriggers done from the frame out. Need to redo the one above then fit them to the sliders. Add a few gussets, then send them off to powder coat.

The plates that rest against the frame are from MetalTech. They offer a do it yourself kit for FJ80 that includes the plates and u-bolts. The 6th plate bolts up against the framerail using 4 captured nuts inside the frame.

My weld quality is getting better:)

JC got these finished up last weekend. I was not available to weld so he took them to a friend in Ouray to finish them up. They got powder coated this week but I have not received pics with coat.
