are you talking high range or low? running around fire roads in low or low low it whines a bit. on the highway, etc in high range, no.

I had a CJ-7 once with a dana 18 in it and as it turned out the output gear was a cheap charlie from China, and it whined the entire time I had it, and eventually ate the gears. when I pulled everything you could see the horrific wear pattern on that gear :(

have you called Marlin? could be new bearings just breaking in, tight tolerances.

My Marlin 4.7 gears had more whine than stock in low range.

My 4.7s whine more in low especially with the tranny in 3, 4, or 5th. The thing is spinning FAST. But I gather this is more noticeable than the last set? Check with Marlin. You did get 'em from him?

He didn't have 4.7's in the last set.

Mine whine in low. Like Bill, in 3, 4, or 5.

funny, i usually hear the whining from the cruiser drivers that follow me on the trail... something about a squeaky truck..... :hill:

But seriously, the 4:70 gears do get a bit more whine in 3,4,5 gear.....

Get some bigger coveralls yet? Just that change alone should drop your whining decibels down to more manly levels!:lmao::lmao::p:

OK so overals aside, I am not sure if it is the front or rear case whinning. We drove about 180 miles nad wheeled Black Bear if you can call it that. Some whinning off and on but crazy, then driving to camp the next day they started to whine just driving, again front or rr case?? WIll check it out more this week when I am home.
