a guy a work just got a '99 100 series and asked me this quick question. (simple, but I have now clue about my simple 2f let alone these fancy new-fangled engines)...

His question:

"so my wife's driving the last leg towing the pop-up camper and didn't notice the fuel gauge on "E". It stalled, I got it going again and made it to the gas station, filledup and went on our way. However, the check engine light came on. is that 'cuz we ran out of gas or something else?"

Should he just run the codes? or is there a more simple answer?

I think "pull the code" is a pretty simple answer. Or yeah, they're probably related?

Yeah - pretty lame question. :D I guess I was just curious if there was a, "OH yeah, if you run out of gas the CEL comes on and it just needs to be re-set", type answer.

I'll have him get someone to pull the codes. :o

Don't have any insight on the CEL, but my 99 LX470 has a low fuel light that comes on just as the tank has 1/4. It seems a bit early for a warning, but it must work as I've never run out of gas.
