Hey guys, I am rebuilding my carburetor and I am wondering if someone has a Factory Repair Manual for a 1978 2f that I could borrow to make copies of the pages I need. Thanks guys!

Does it have to be for a '78?

I think I have some manuals but not sure for what years...Probably '76 as I bought them when I owned a '76 FJ40 but maybe it doesn't matter. I'll try to remember to look tonight :thumb:

Martin or the other Jeff Z. might have what you need and are closer...Let's see if they post up when they have a chance.

I have one for my 77, but it dosn't specify to which model years it applies. I will try to copy the pages tonight and bring them to the 40s only run, in case you can make it there.

Thanks Sascha!

Won't make the 40 run but might be able to meet you there if you can bring the copies. The production range for Zach's carb is 8/76'-1/79' FJ40/55.

If Dave's not able to make it, I can get them. Zach and I are working on a time where I can give him a hand with the tear down.

Thanks Ricardo. I likely won't be there, even to ride along, as I have been sick all day today. I do have the carb, diaphragm kit and the carb dip with a basket, so Zach's got everything he should need.

I have the FSM which would cover the 78, but it isn't super-helpful. Basically a couple of exploded views. I have concluded that for a successful carb rebuild you need to take a lot of photos during teardown and have a really good memory on how to put it back together right.

Bye the bye, I was doing some last minute inpections before tomorrow's run and discovered the reason I haven't been able to idle at full choke. The little doohicky (tech term) that captures the linkage for the choke breaker onto the swivel is missing. It appears that this missing part might either be a tiny e-clip or wire link. I shrugged my shoulders and knew that I can start, run and get down the road and off road without it, but does anyone know off hand if it is a clip or a wire retainer? I didn't go upstairs to get my glasses to get a closer look to see if there was a hole through the linkage for a wire retainer or just a groove for an e-clip.

I got the manual pages from Sascha a few minutes ago. They are in my truck.
