View Full Version : Ham radio demos, this Saturday, your help needed!

I'm looking for several folks to help us out on Saturday. We will be doing two Ham Radio demonstrations at the rally (http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/forum2/showthread.php?t=13027), and I'm looking for support both at the rally itself and on 2m from somewhere else in the state.

We will do demos at 11:30 and 1:30, lasting 30-45 minutes.

If you can make it to the rally, please come find me and my truck and help out. Bring some cool gear to show off.

If you can't make the rally, then perhaps you could be available on your 2m radio during these times..

Here is the agenda:

15-20 minutes after the sessions start I will be calling out on 146.460 simplex to ask for any Rising Sun members looking for a QSO. I will then shout out to the 145.460 / .225 repeater system asking the same thing. Finally, I'll be making a call to the 145.310 Col. Connection, looking for someone on the western part of the state... each one intended to demonstrate the use of the repeater system, followed by a discussion of its awesomeness.

So if you can help field questions, demonstrate use, etc. at the rally that would be sweet. Come hungry as you will be eligible for unlimited Slee dogs, courtesy of K0SLE (http://www.sleeoffroad.com/).. if you can't, then maybe we'll hear you on the radio. thanks!

If I'm at the Rally during those times I'll swing by to help as needed and if I'm out and about in the truck instead I'll listen for your call :thumb:

I will be available for a 146.460 simplex try and a 145.460 / .225 repeater system try at 1145 and 1345.

Maybe I can get Karie to hook up the HT to our J-Pole antenna on our house and see if we can get her on simplex at 11:30.

I may be a little late getting there now, so the 11:30 showing may be a little iffy. So if you had to choose one or the other, go for 1:30!:o

My kids are holding a food drive in our neighborhood tomorrow afternoon, so I will be gone by 1:30 p.m.

Tim, I can sometimes get the Colorado Connection repeater (146.850-) in Glenwood Springs when I am up on a mountain top in Crested Butte. I will try to be on at 1:30 if possible. Terry

Tim, I can do earlier but later is cutting into my wood splitting time. I have all three items needed, Ham, HT and CB. So ww can have the users listening to all three.

Time is my enemy since I have to go home and split 3 cords of wood,

Sweet Tom I'll look for you as soon as I get there, and will be listening. :thumb:

Tim, I was on Paradise Divide near Schofield Pass and I could hear the Glenwood Springs repeater intermittantly. Transmitted several times to you but no reply. This was at 1:30 to 2:00. Terry

Thanks you Tim for doing the demo, I was already sold but now I'm a feel a little bit more motivated to get a Ham license.

Awesome Brandon, that was fun to do for me too, glad you liked it. The web site I mentioned was www.qrz.com go that's where the practice exams are, try taking a technician's test and see how you do! ;)
