View Full Version : Aug 12th Perseid Meteor Shower - Rollins Pass Camping Trip

08-11-2010, 04:17 PM

Allison and I will be headed up to Rollins pass tomorrow night to camp and watch the meteor shower. Our plan is to head up there after work (leave at 5:30 from Boulder) and stay the night. We plan to get up early the next morning, break down camp and get back in to town with enough time to make to work at a reasonable time.

It will be pretty bare bones and quick.

We will have Mead, Chili, and a third dog that we are watching with us. They usually go to sleep early though.

Feel free to join us.

Just a FYI, the Perseids peak usually very early in the morning and not overnight. You'll have the best luck going to bed early and getting up to watch them a couple hours before dawn. I love the Persaids, they are uber reliable and when they peak they'll be flying all over like a movie, a couple per second. It's cool.

Marco, if you have time, check out the conditions of the trail and campsites so we can report at the BRD OHV meeting. :thumb:

Well, it was a beautiful evening up there last night, and this morning was cool and clear.

We simmered some chili in the crock pot, drank a few beers, and watched the stars fall. It was pretty nice.

The sites actually looked pretty clean, and believe it or not the post and cable is looking pretty good. i only saw one post that was kinda tilted over, but nothing that looked really bad at all. I'll be back up there tonight so i'll take a closer look and maybe snap some pictures.

Ellie set her alarm for 3:00am, and came in and got us up to go look at the shower. We should have sent her up with you guys....
