1988 Mazda 323 GTX ? AWD Turbo

Difficult to find factory race prepped car! Only 1,243 were imported into the U.S. in 1988 and 1989 only!

158,858 miles
1.6L factory turbo DOHC engine w/ factory intercooler
5 speed manual
AWD with center "diff-lock"
4-wheel power disc brakes
Power steering
Factory sunroof pops and slides as new; seals tight from rain
Rear hatch has both factory spoilers intact
Both front seats have decent upholster, great bolstering, and multiple adjustments

Recent work:
NEW clutch (disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throwout bearing)
Engine replaced with lower mileage 1991 Capri XR2 engine (identical engine with stronger crank)
New oil pan gasket, engine rear main seal, timing belt, and water pump
New oil change and antifreeze change
Newly rebuilt clutch slave cylinder
New spark plugs
4 nearly new Falken directional tires on factory aluminum rims (only 1 center cap, but they get removed for rally use anyways)
Stereo with I-pod connection, flip face CD, and upgraded speakers

Professionally tinted black windows. Dark charcoal grey paint is faded and a re-paint would be needed for any sort of a car for show. Fortunately, there is only 1 very small spot of rust (about the size of a nickel or so) and only a couple shopping cart or door dents. Minimal body work is needed to have a good looking car.

With minimal modifications this could be a competitive SCCA rally car, Sollo II car, Autocross, rallycross hillclimb car, or even a great ice racing car!

What it still needs: passenger headlight is cracked but functional, windshield is crakcked but who's isn't, possibly shocks for the rear hatch, and the domelight is missing.

$3,500 obo. Full price sale includes other goodies. I have the ORIGINAL FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL. This costs nearly $100 alone for a used copy! Also have a complete extra power steering setup. Pump, hoses, rack/pinion, etc. There are also some extra cams and other goodies.

See links to videos of identical cars and for sites with info on GTX's, including one that was raced up Pikes Peak Hill Climb:

I finally got around to posting the GTX on craigslist. Got several responses, a couple which seem serious enough. Just FYI...

Very cool car that not many are familiar with. I had a FWD non turbo in college. Always wished I had that. But still loved mine. One of my favorite cars I've ever owned.
