can you see it?

farnhamstj

I can't. I hate computers. I select manage attachments. Browse. Find the file. Close window. post. What am I missing?

Size is usually the culprit. right click on the photo and look at the size.. anything over 150kb will be denied.

When you find the file and click upload, leave that window open to see if the file uploads successfully or if it was denied.

Nice thing about the gallery software is it does it for us... need to be a member to post in the gallery though.

Let me know if there is anything I can help you with Farnham

says 1.36mb is that too big or too small? what is mb and what is kb? how do I change the size?

Hulk

1.36 mb is too big. If you don't have Photoshop, you can get Gimp for free (http://www.gimp.org/). You need to downsize the picture to make it suitable for the web.

1000 kb (kilobyte) = 1 mb (megabyte).

wesintl

Yeah. it's way too big. 1000kb in 1mb.

You can try and use windows to resize but it's not going to guarantee that its small enough. I usually use 640x480 for posting to the web. But it all depends on the resolution you've taken pics with. Usually I take pics with my camera set to 640x480 since all i really ever use it for is posting images to the web. Here is a step by step to help out.http://www.freeimagebrowser.com/forum/t3904-batch-resize-photos-through-windows-explorer.html

Photoshop is popular for resizing and modifying images

You could try this freeware I came across too. http://www.freeimagebrowser.com/article2608.html

An Mb is a MegaByte, KB is a Kilobyte, MB is larger than a KB by a factor of 1000.

Right click on the photo and a little window pops up, select "Open With" then "Paint" in the next window. the photo will open in Microsoft Paint. On the top bar click on "Image" then "Stretch/Skew" and a window will pop up. You can shrink the photo but putting numbers smaller than 100 in the "Stretch" textboxes labeled "Horizontal" and "Vertical". Try 25 (25%) first, save the image (use a new file name so you dont shrink the original image) and then check the size. You can repeat this until its small enough.

Here is the place to get Gimp for Windows (http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/). This is the open source version of Photoshop. Download (http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html) here. FAQs here (http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/faq.html). It looks kind of complex, but there are lots of people who use this rather than paying Adobe.

I use Photoshop for most things but for a quick resize or crop this is a great free and simple to use viewer/editor IRFANVIEW (http://www.irfanview.com/).

I use Paint at work, which actually works fairly well. I think it's the only software ever that I use 85-90% of its capabilities. Anyway, it's image, stretch-skew.. then type in 30% and see what that gets you. Gimp is clearly better, though. hth...

I have photoshop and will play with it tomorow. I was killing time waiting for my sister to have her baby. She had a girl, Maisey Sage 7lb 4 oz. I'm an Uncle!!!! She's cute. My Son(2years old) got very upset when I was holding her, probably afraid we might bring her home. Just what I need, a newborn to go along with my 6month old daughter.(by the way my kids loved Cruise Moab)

Congradulations Uncle Farnam! ;) In PhotoShop simply pull down the file menu and select "Save for web" I usually convert pics to low res and size them so the biggest side is 900 or smaller. Be sure to save under a new name so you don't mess with the original. :thumb:

The "Save for web" feature in Photoshop will really make your life easy. Save photos as jpegs, not gifs. I usually set the quality at 60, which I find to be a good balance between quality and file size.

I had exactly the same reactions! First, awesome. Second, how the heck did he get the smoke? I'm reasonably skilled with Photoshop, but Mike, you're a master!

thank you for the compliments. If you set the magic wand to a tolerance of 5 or something you can be very selective. 2nd, I cut it into layers and doubled up all areas that were not in front of the tire. With that in place you can erase the 1st layer and change transparency of the new layers to something like 60%. The rest was all dodge and burn.
