Hey guys, I was not sure if I should post this here or in general chat. I wanted to pass on a man by the name of Steve for windshield replacement. I found Steve on Craigslist when I was searching for a windshield for my 1998 E-250 van. Seems he had purchased a pallet of these and was selling them for $99.00 installed, a little suspicious, I went ahead and had him come over and install the windshield. Come to find out, he has been doing this for over 30 years, kept his company small and passes on the savings to his customers. the windshield was GREAT and so was his service. While he was installing the glass in the Ford, I asked him about a windshield for my daughters 1994 BMW 325-I thinking that it would be quite a bit more than my van, he said that it was in stock and it would cost $119.00 installed. I also asked him about the windshield for a 2007 FJ-Cruiser as I had heard that these were ridiculous because of the top trim piece and he said that he had just done one in the past few weeks and it was only around $165.00. I about fell over, as some of the people I spoke with in the past when I owned mine were telling me that you could not get one installed for under $500.00. To make a long story longer, if you are looking for some glass (he also does residential glass) you want to call Steve and check him out. Real nice guy and does GREAT work..

Thanks for the tip. Any idea if he ventures into the ultra cool zone known as the North Side?

Wham! Bam! done and gone...

Like wow - it took him <15 mins and he was done and dusted.

New windshield on wifes 1990 4runner for $120 cash ($10 extra to drive to Longmont up from Denver) and she is happy.

Can't beat the price.

Brian -thanks for the recommendation - I'll use him in the spring when I'm sure I'll have a few more cracks on my 80

Anyone with an 80 want to be the guinea pig :hill:

The 80 needs a new one and the LX could certainly use a windshield as well (pits)

Yeah I'm thinking about it.. my 80 windshield is split several ways. So what's involved Jeff, get a new OEM gasket first? Then ask the guy to use glue?

I was hoping you would tell me :hill: - I'm guessing a new gasket would be a good idea, especially if the existing one is the original gasket. And glue, yeah I think I've read something about glue. My plan is to print out the FSM page and hand it to whomever does the replacement :)

Boulder Toyota did mine for around that price + the cost for the gasket (~$50). Jerry will hook you up if you are a RS member.

This is the same guy I had do my SC300. He does chip seal too for extremely cheap ($15-$25 per). Great guy.

My 80 is still leaking, even after the other JERKS came out three times. If I had more time and energy, I would take them to court.

Make sure he uses a fresh gasket and that he glues both the windshield-gasket and the gasket to frame. I still need to have mine redone, so let me know if this guy can do and 80 and have it not leak!!!

Wow, excellent thread. I've been getting Discount Auto glass to do the last couple of ones for around $200/ea. They do a good job and are fast, but it's good to know there's an even lower cost alternative. FWIW I did my 1971 FJ40 myself with new OEM gasket and glass for around $170 IIRC, and it was a LOT of work. Of course I was learning as I went.
