View Full Version : Roof Rack Question

My 99 Runner has the factory roof rack that I mount a ski rack on, but the rails that the ski rack mounts on are not secure and can come right off with the twist of a knob. Does anyone know how to fox this problem?? I want to be able to stop and have a bite to eat and leave my vehicle without worrying that Im going to get jacked!

I assume the ski rack is attached the bars that stretch the width of the vehicle on the stock rack. to make the setup more secure, you'll have to purchase the attachment feet and load bars for your rack (yakima/thule). those feet will now attach to the rails that run the length of your vehicle with locks :thumb: . the ski rack will now attach to the load bars. I hope that makes sense.

Yes, that makes sense. Thanks! Looks like feet and load bars are not cheap, hopefully I can find a deal somewhere!

A trip to AAA metric will net you "Security Screws"(the type that use a special screw driver or wrench) with the correct metric threads to replace the nobs on the factory rack.
