How do these compare to the 1st gen versions size wise, if you know?

Hands down the second generation is a better tent. The first generation was larger and more roomy. But it was heavy and the material was a lot lighter and flapped in the wind. This one is smaller though but the fabric is thick, has a nice rain fly and I like the awnings a lot. Plus the ladder is much better as well.
It is still fairly good sized, My wife and I are fairly tall people. I am 6"3 and my wife is 5"10. We can sleep comfortably with our gear in it.
I bought both of mine from Jennycruiser on mud (Chad)

I have the first gen (never used :o) but I like the idea of the changing room (although that may not be useable in my planned setup). My problem would be size...I need to fit 2 adults and 2 kids at times which the first gen seems suitable for. Sure, I could kick the kids to a tent on the ground but the reality is it will be me that gets kicked to the tent on the ground :hill:

First gen or second gen? I'm trying to find out the dimensions on my first gen to compare to the second gen...

I think the second gen dimensions (found here (http://www.roof-top-tent.com/page.asp?id=3)) are:

Base: Aluminum Sheet 94in (L) x 55in (W) / (open)
47in (L) x 55in (W) x 12in (H) / (closed)

Can't find the dimensions of the 1st gen anywhere other than the mattress is basically a queen size...2nd gen seems to be a full size
