I'm looking at the calendar for this annual run. I'm scheduling for Wednesday, July 12. We usually meet at 3 p.m. -- I'm thinking we might want to start earlier this year, to allow more time for pizza and beer.

I thought the summer solstice was in june? Officially june 21, 2006

Did you mean june and not july?

Hulk

No, we have the Father's Day Run in June, which would be less than 4 days away from June 14 and 21. I don't want to compete. We could have it on June 7, but that's the RS meeting! And June 28 is impossible for me.

The run was originally an August run, but we moved it to July to take advantage of more daylight hours. I think July will be fine, especially if we do a 2 p.m. start time instead of 3.

only thing is it's 2 days before the ghost town run.... Too close IMHO.. ;)

Crap. Let's schedule it for July 12. I'll have been back from a family road trip for only a few days at that point, and I may not be able to "blow off work." But I'll do my best.

I vote make it 1:00. It's still a half day of work then bailing at lunch, but it would be nice to be off the trail & aried up while the sun is still out.. then folks who needed to be back home with their families in the evening could still complete the run and not have to bail early like last year. Plus more time for pizza & for the rest.

Where's the run going to be?

Hulk
05-25-2006, 12:25 PM
We have always done Slaughterhouse Gulch off of 285 near Bailey. We could do a different run, but it needs to be close to Denver, since people generally come straight from work. That's been the limiting factor when we've discussed different trails.

The trail is moderate. It's fine for stock Cruisers. There is a hill with some good optional whoop-de-woos if you're locked and lifted.

It's near Bailey, off of 285.

Rezarf <><Hey Drew, after what we did together at Moab, this will be a cake walk. No worries, mate! Here's a trip report (http://rzeppa.org/slaughter/slaughter.htm) from the first time I did this trail many years ago.

Holy cow!! You're due for some R&R!!

The Ghost Town run will be starting in Fairplay. 'Bout 1.5 hours out of Denver on 285. Maybe 30-45 minutes past the Blow off Work Run. :thumb:

We talked about it at the meeting and this is the closest to a time/place to meet i can find in the thread. Going to try and make it just wondering if a final time and place had been set yet??????

In the past we have met at the ugly hot dog in Aspen Park at 3:00PM. Matt had suggested earlier in this thread that we might try to meet earlier in the afternoon, but no specific time has been set. Also, the ugly hot dog was been moved to Bailey a few months ago, so it isn't in Aspen Park any more. At a meeting we discussed the possibility of meeting at Colorado Toyota Specialists. Proprietor Joe Calleja is a TLCA business and a Rising Sun member, and his shop is just a few blocks from where we use to meet, but it's not easy to find if you haven't been there.

Bottom line is, no specific time and place have been set as of this point in time. The above is informational only.

Hi Rising Sun members. I am coming to Colorado Springs on Tuesday for a little R&R, class reunion, family time, etc, etc. I was hoping to meet up with some of the Cruiser family out there, Romer suggested this run and the Ghost Town run. I know for sure the Ghost one is out, kinda far away fromt he Springs on top of it is my last weekend there. I would like to try and make this one though. Biggest problem obviously is that I won't have my Crusier:(
Would still like to figure out something! Drop me a message with any suggestions you might have.

Thanks in advance, if I don't get a chance to meet any of you this trip, maybe next time-hopefully I am moving back that way in the near future.

Have a good one guys!

Just talked with Dave Brown, and we decided the following:

BLOW OFF WORK AND GO WHEELIN' RUN (6th annual)
Date: Wednesday, July 12

Meeting time: 2:00 p.m. Depart @ 2:30 p.m.

Meeting place: the new King Soopers Shopping Center
This is just off Hwy 285, a block east of where Coney Island was previously located.
KING SOOPERS
25637 CONIFER ROAD
CONIFER, CO 80433
Store Phone: 303-816-4960

Post-run pizza:
Crossroads Restaurant
16 Mt. Evans Blvd. (US-285/Pine Jct., the only stoplight on US-285.)
Pine, CO 80470

What time we get to the pizza joint depends on how many people show up for the run, etc. I hope to be there by 7:30 p.m.

Well, at this point it doubtful I'll be wheeling the 71 tomorrow, just too much left to do. I finally got the engine yanked (http://risingsun4x4club.org/forum2/showthread.php?t=1629&page=7) today, what a PITA! I really don't want to wheel the FJ45, but if I want to go on this run it looks like it's going to be the only way.

Looks like we might get wet per weather.com's report. Is there a better local prediction/forecast/guess?

Thanks Looking forward to it, rain or shine!
