I have a set of the OME heavy springs for my 80. Currently I'm running the medium 2.5s. I put a Slee rear bumper on and step sliders and an planning to put a bumper on the front, probably a Short Bus bumper. Should I swap in my heavy springs? The ride doesn't feel too bad now.

Not sure if you've seen this page, but its got some good info on it. Short story is spring rate for front springs between med and heavy is the same, just .8" taller. For the rear the springs are the same length but the heavies have a higher spring rate. http://www.cruiseroutfitters.com/tech_OME_coils.html

Out of curiosity, what castor bushings are you running? With heavies, an arb, winch, and yellows, I feel it wanders a bit too much. I am saving up for some slee blacks at the next opportunity. All that said, I'd swap them out :D

right on Chris, nice to see the 80 getting some love!! I say heck no, don't mess with the springs just get that truck out and get used to it with the added weight. Then get behind the wheel of another few built 80's to get a better spring comparison, decide then if you want to change the ride, and if you want to be taller or change spring rate, or both.

to that end, you can drive mine any time... but I don't know medium, heavy.. what are the numbers of the springs you're currently running, and which ones do you have waiting in the wings? Reason I ask is some have different rates, some just have different ride heights.. that table that Corey posted above is the one to study.

I wouldn't put the heavies back there unless you are really planning to load up the back with HUNDREDS of pounds of gear. Unless you 80 is sitting low in the back all the time, I'd stick with what you have now.

If you want to compare sometime, I have the OME heavies all the way around with the Slee rear bumper so weight on the rear should be similar. I went with the heavies for towing the popup and it sits level when towing and slight stink bug when not.
