View Full Version : Show me your half doors

I am gonna cut down a set of doors I have into half doors and I am looking for a little inspiration. I have looked over on mud to see what they have to offer, but there are a lot of hack jobs over there.
I would like to:
Keep the factory lines
Keep the factory handles
Keep the interior handles/locks but move them.
Make a spot for speakers
Make a map pocket or similar for storage
I am wondering two things specifically...
1. How would fill the top section once the door is cut? I am thinking of a thin 3x1" tubing?
2. How would you go about using/recreating interior door panels?
thanks in advance-:thumb:

Whoever chopped down the set of half doors I have screwed a nice wooden piece to the top section. At first I thought it was kinda goofy, but it's starting to grow on me. :dunno:
I'll see if I can get some pictures of them posted up tonight.

If you don't mind an infidel 4Runner guy posting, here's (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109104) a Pirate thread I started on mine ages ago.

What about using a metal tech tube door and weld the factory outer skin to it, as to appear factory from the outside?

As promised, my ghetto fab half door. It was chopped and then the wooden arm rest was screwed to a board that slides inside the two door halves. This board was then screwed in place from both sides.
I'm planning on refinishing the wood, likely with some black satin stain and sealing it up, mostly to keep any splinters out of my arms.
