So last fall I used this stuff on my OE alloy wheels on the Tundra:

But as soon as I hit some mag chloride last winter the brown spots came back. Immediately.

So is there anything I can put on that will protect the wheels after I clean them again? I'm thinking clear coat, but what quality clear coat should I use so it doesn't fade or whatever like the clear coat I used on my quick quarter panel and front fender respray is fading?

don't know if it works on mag chloride, but an old midwestern trick for alum rims vs. salt is to coat them with vaseline

Zoop Seal. I remember a while back hearing about this stuff to keep my wheels shiny even in the winters of virginia. I think Summit sells it. I would research this stuff and see if it will work for your app.

I haven't tried it, but POR15 makes a clear coat for over polished aluminum:

POR15 Glisten PC (http://www.por15.com/GLISTEN-PC/productinfo/GPCGG/)

I've used their rust inhibitors, tanks sealers and undercoat and have been impressed.

I to love por15. Used it to rust convert half of my 89 pickup. Worked freaking wonders. And looked pretty too

I stripped the clear coat from mine, and use acid etching to keep them clean. old school, but it works.

So you're saying wax the wheels?

Keeping in mind that the last time I put wax on my truck was like 5 years ago, yes, that is what I understand is the best way to keep aluminum wheels from pitting with mag chloride. Treat them the same as you treat your truck paint. I take my truck to the car wash about every week or two during mag chloride season and spray the heck out of it, particularly underside, along the rockers, on the frame, axles and wheels.
