View Full Version : 2011 40's Only Run!

MDH33
08-06-2011, 06:21 PM
Who:

FJ40 Owners!

What:

Just what it says, a run for Only FJ40's!:zilla:

When:

Sunday August 28th - Day after the Rising Sun Rally!

Where:

Argentine Pass! New venue for the 40's Run. I thought some new scenery would be nice.

Why:

Because it's fun to wheel with a bunch of old-school rigs once in awhile. ;)

How:

Dust off your 40 and let's go.

This is the Fifth annual Rising Sun "40's Only Run". The plan is to meet up at the Georgetown Visitor Center at 9:00. We'll then head up Guanella Pass to the Argnentine Pass Trailhead and do some exploring.

It's a fun, easy, scenic trail any FJ40 can do. If the weather permits, we might even make it to the top of Argentine Pass. If not, there's still a lot of trail to explore and the scenery is hard to beat.

I hope all the 40 owners can make it. If you don't have a 40, you're welcome to ride along. :)

How about we have some form of tech inspection on the day of the Rally so we don't spend all day Sunday fixing stuff? :D Or a reminder that if you know there is something wrong with your 40, it will not miraculously fix itself and it will probably get worse going up the mountain :thumb:

And, Perry...I might even install a passenger seat just for you. ;)

As long as you dont make me walk a mile up hill in the snow to get to the rest of the group than i'm game:hill:

I'll probably stick that pass. seat in so I can put griff up front with me...still have just one side facing jump seat in the rear. :(

I have that old-school conferr storage box in the back...no forward facing rear seats. :hill:

It looks like stockers would do ok on Argentine? Are lockers/33s a nice to have, or necessary?

Stockers should be fine on Argentine. The only place a stocker *might* have trouble is along the Powerline Road/Creek Crossing, and the hill climb above Waldorf. Though the hill climb is optional and usualy not the best way to get to the Santiago Mine, as a few user created roads have been created after it.

The water crossings on the Powerline Road should be low enough this time of year to not cause to much worry.

I also wanted to remind everyone that this is on a Sunday, and we'll have to deal with typical Sunday I-70 traffic on the way home unless you decide to head over Guanella Pass and take 285 back.

Tim-Nakman -Sorry, but since I hadn't heard back from anyone I extended the Blue Mule offer to my daughter. So she, Nick and her kids will be in the Mule and I will be in the Meanie.

Steve Brady, lets convoy up together to the trailer parking area around Georgetown lake. We can all unload and head up to the trailhead together. We can meet up with you somehwere on C470 as we pass your patch of dirt.

I hear there is a major bike race ending in Breck this weekend....a factor to be considered? I really don't know the exact route.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I had forgotten about the USA Pro Cycling Challenge which ends on Sunday and will be a real headache around Golden and Denver with all the road closures.

Plan accordingly and try to avoid the route on you're way to Georgetown in the morning. For those coming from the Boulder area, I would probably take the Central City route to I-70 and avoid Golden.

Here's a link to the route map. (http://www.usaprocyclingchallenge.com/stages/stage-6)

Looks like they are finished with Breck on Saturday at 4pm, and the next leg starts at 5am in Golden....so, any traffic will be heading in and not out. We should be okay, at least those leaving from Denver anyway.

Well given that I am the only one signed up and given the bad memories from last time I was there. . . . I think I'll pass. Plus being around all the 40's I should feel a little more motivated to get mine going.
