View Full Version : gear question

I know this is probably a dumb one, but I can't find the answer by searching. How do you tell by looking at a differential what gearing it has...ie if I am lucky enough to find a couple of diffs from a 62 to swap into my 60, how do I know it has the stock 4.11s in it?

You can count the teeth, and divide the # on the ring gear by the # on the pinion. Or, I think the number is stamped on the perimeter of at least the ring gear.

37 teeth on the ring gear and 9 on the pinion gear gives you the 62's 4.11. Some folks confuse the 80s series 41 ring and 10 pinion equaling 4.10 with the 62's 4.11 but they are different beasts.

you can also just mark the pinion and mark the tire. then spin the tire for one complete revolution, and count how many time's the pinion spins.
