OK folks, I am looking for your favorite off-road trail that has some good hiking on or near it. Mainly thinking about scenery, enjoyment, etc, nothing too strenuous on either the hiking or the 4x4. Last year I had fun taking the west side of Rollins up to the main traihead and hiking along the old trestles to the tunnel, then up and over to the east side of the pass. Not too strenuous of a hike, and obviously not very hard on the 'road'. There are probably more options driving up the east side, there are a bunch of fire roads on the east side before you get to the main Rollins turnoff.

Anyway, what are your favorite day trips for hiking and offroading? You can always PM me your favorite secrets. ;)

Holy Cross is a nice easy trail, with gorgeous side paths to hike.

Hey, I'm not kidding! You don't even have to cross French Creek! You can take the 2WD road up to where it joins the 4x4 route at midpoint, then proceed ~NE on a game trail paralleling Homestake Creek that extends on the same heading as the 2WD road. Just be sure to carry a compass and a topo; the contours of the area slowly turn and before you know it, you are turned around.

I know this from hunting the area... gorgeous meadows below the game trail.

Peru Creek and then Argentine Pass maybe? I wanted to hike Argentine but by the time we were done farting around the Pennsylvania and Shoe Basin mines it was FAR too late in the day.

Correct, not the drivable side.
