The cooling fan near the manifolds on my 78 has not been working the last 2 summers that I have owned my 40. I have not researched it to much but have noticed the cruiser wanting to stall or vapor-lock if I started it when the engine was hot in the summer months.
Today when I was vacuuming and blowing out the heater core (a nasty 33 year buildup of dust bunnies). I had removed the cowl from the fan in the fire wall to the front heater. Behind the cowl (only2 bolts) was a part that read "Cooling Fan". Attached to it was what looked like an in line fuse. I replaced the blown 5A fuse, test drove, and low and behold the mid import fan sound appeared from beneath the hood. Oh, and the heater is pushing out waaaay more warm air for winter.

Good deal! That cooling fan definitely helps with the vapor lock.
