Dear State Trails OHV Grant Committee,
The Boulder Ranger District is working on a plan to re-route a section of the Jenny Creek Trail (National Forest System Trail 808.1) near Rollins Pass. This challenging four-wheel drive trail has long been a favorite of motorized visitors, including motorcycles, ATVs, and full-sized 4x4s.

However, in recent years, a three-quarter-mile portion of the road has become seriously eroded where it runs parallel to Jenny Creek, to the point that some sections of road have eroded completely into the creek, leaving motorized visitors no choice but to drive in the creek bed. Further damage is caused where deep muddy ruts cause drivers to become stuck or drive around the ruts, impacting additional areas. Also, many redundant user-created routes exist along this stretch, and new impacts are occurring each year.

This project will restore and re-route the approximately three-quarter-mile eroded and rutted portion of Jenny Creek Trail, moving it to an upland area to a more sustainable location and reducing future resource damage.

<Description of your organization and projects you have done over the years>

The Jenny Creek Trail is an historic wagon road in subalpine forest. The Boulder Ranger District’s project will promote safe, responsible use by visitors, while restoring damaged routes and improving watershed health and wildlife and fish habitat.

I fully support this project because it preserves sustainable motorized opportunities for people to explore the past and enjoy the National Forest, while protecting the environment by reducing impacts to sensitive streams, wetlands and riparian habitat.

Please support the Boulder Ranger District in this effort. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Rising Sun 4x4 Club has adopted Jenny Creek and we have put hundreds of person-hours into keeping Jenny Creek Trail sustainable, including reclamation and restoration of the riparian area near Yankee Doodle Lake, next to the historic Denver, Northwestern & Pacific / Denver & Salt Lake Railroad bed. The area is a precious historical gem to Colorado, and access to the area is an important recreational value. It is also a delicate ecosystem, and we want to see it protected and preserved as well as open to public access. This project will do much toward that goal.

The gist I got at the meeting was that we should have a letter from Rising Sun with a lot of names on it rather than everyone sending an individual letter. It won't hurt to have more letters but an offical one representing the club, on club letterhead, was what Cat asked for.

From what I understand, both is good.
