They've sent me a new password, to the account I cant get into. Still waiting for a temporary code via text, they said it would only be a few minutes.......

Last night once home, and first things this morning I tried to get in but couldnt.

A bit annoyed with Hotmail:rolleyes:.

Thoughts?

TIA!

Yes, But A) Somebody else used my account to send you that spam and B) i'm trying to at least save the content in compromised account.

During one attempt, it sent me a new password to compromised account.

I've set up a new account but still cant get into old account.

All options that Hotmail has didnt get me back into my account. I sent off a message to Hotmail telling them how I feel about there help and service. Maybe i'll login into my hotmail account to see what they said:rolleyes:.

GMail has a 2-factor authentication deal that requires you to receive a text message in order to log in. You can "register" a computer, and it'll store a cookie in the browser so you don't have to do it again for 30 days. However, some ne'er-do-well would have to steal your phone AND know your password to get in, assuming they use a different computer.

Alternately, if you have a smartphone, they (The googles) have an app that will give you a cycling key-code that changes every minute, just like an RSA token. You're prompted for that code when you enter your password. It will also cache the cookie for 30 days so you don't have to be annoyed with it all the time on machines you log in from on a regular basis.

Dunno if Hotmail has something similar, but might be worth a look since you've had trouble. Since MS will authenticate you that way for recovery, maybe they'll do it as a proactive security measure instead of just PW recovery.

I had an email account get hacked a while back, and as a result I'm probably a little bit tin-foil-hatted about it now TBH.

Yea - come on over to gmail. I'm sure you'll be able to secure that obscure screen name you use - bh4nqzldqrunner or whatever it is.

For how much you pay them, they will listen to your complaints. My ISP and e-mail is through www.indra.net in Boulder. The respond in minutes and fix everything, which is rare because they are so reliable.
