Noticed that 1/2 of the one of the rear springs is missing in my 1996 Tacoma. I guess this is a common problem. I don't want to put in a used spring, since it is likely to happen again. What brand springs would you recommend for no lift or max of 2" lift?

I love Alcan springs out of Grand Junction. They are pricey but built for YOUR truck and usage. I'll take your old ones off your hands when you get some new ones, I need a couple leaves.

Rear springs from an earlier XtraCab work great. The 1996 Tacos were famous for fractured leafs. Cheap and reliable solution that will net you about 2" lift.

The earlier Xtracabs being the 89-95? Will have to see if I can scrounge some up. Never had a problem with the leaves on any of the other 1980's trucks or 4Runners. Rather disappointed in these.

Yep I believe those are the years, Google is your friend. The 96 Taco had a short leaf length matching the earlier XtraCabs but they were hecho en Mexico and notorious. Later years were longer and reliable but had the Toyota sag as they all do. The nice thing about using used leafs from earlier is 1) sag is done sagged, 2) you get some lift, 3) they are extremely long lived, and 4) of course, CHEEP.

Thanks. I will have to look that up. Not afraid to mix up some springs. Rather disappointed in the current ones as this is my first Tacoma model.
