So it looks like I'm in the market for some speedometer parts.

SOR sells the driven gear, but only has used sleeves. Seeing as the grenaded sleeve is what killed the gear in the first place, I'm kinda hoping to find a new part. Any ideas on who might have them?

Another question. The driven gear I took out is marked as a 17 tooth gear. Any reason to doubt that that's the right number of teeth?

Ouch.

One more question. I removed the speedo housing to make replacing the seal more easy. There was no paper gasket between the speedo housing and the transfer case. I'm assuming there should be.

Should I get some sheet gasket material and cut a new one or use some gasket in a tube or something else entirely?

Toyota mang. Call up Stevinson and Derek will have it for you at the meeting.

For your speedo stuff, I would try calling cruiserparts.net and/or Merle at Classic Cruisers in Salida and see what they can do for you.

Just an FYI for anyone replacing a speedo driven gear who is also in need of new o-rings or a sleeve...the driven gear is a kit that includes the gear, sleeve, o-rings, and felt oil seals.

Don't do what I did and buy the gear and all the o-rings and sleeve. On that note, if anyone needs a sleeve or o-rings for the speedo driven gear, let me know because I have extras.

Not sure if a 80's 4Runner one will work for you but I have an extra one on the parts truck. You are welcome to it, take about 10 minutes to pull it out. Check it out online and see if it will work.
