I was able to find a set of good used BFG MTs and need to get the old tires unmounted, clean up the wheels and have them powder coated, and then have the new(used) MTs mounted and balanced.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a tire shop that would work with this? Or have a shop themselves that could do it? Discount wants over $100 to do it (which may be what it costs actually), but I thought I'd ask.

I'm in Erie/Lafayette, but make it down to Lakewood regularly, so anywhere in between is cool.

Get yourself some "tyre pliers" from George at Extreme Outback. Then you will only have to hire out the labour for balancing.

Costco has the best prices for mounting and balancing. I think something like $12-14 a tire. give them a buzz.

Holy cow. It's the little things you miss when you move. The manager of a tire shop in Laramie used to work for me so I always got free mount and balance and he would give me a heads up when good used tires would come in. He sent lots of side mechanic work my way too. I'm going to send him flyers for houses in my neighborhood.

I've found that in the long run, it is cheaper to buy lifetime rotate and balance from Discount, especially if you plan to rotate and rebalance your tires on a regular basis. I was thinking it is $25/tire...

Thanks guys. I'm gonna check around a little. I took a look at the Tyre Pliers too.

I would use the lifetime balance, except I doubt I'll put 1000mi on my 40 every year. Probably a few hundred here and there. Not sure how much balancing I would need done in that case.

I wonder what one of those nice Hunter wheel balancing machines goes for? It always pains me to pay the $15-20 / tire whenever I want to do a swap, re-balance or get new tires.
