Anybody got some old skins they are willing to part with cheap?

Gonna throw together a split board and want to make something work rather than paying 170 bucks for new ones....

They can be narrow or whatever, pretty sure I can make it work type of thing...

Splitboard (http://splitboard.com/)

The skin is a piece of nylon that attaches to the bottom. Allows the ski to glide forward but not back. Kind of like a cross country ski. You use them to go up then remove them to bomb your way back down.

it's at the shop getting the base ground now. I think it may actually work.

I do think I set the bindings too far back though.

oh well.

one plate in touring position, the other in riding position.

bindings aren't quite as far back as they look. I think it is a weird picture thing going on.

Nothing wrong with Climbing Skins Direct. The gent (Rick Liu) who started it came up with the formula for the original Ascension skin glue. About the best you can do, which is why AFAIK BCA skins are made by CSD just with different grafix and have stuff sacks and cheat sheets.

Anyone want to take a personal day tomorrow?

I was going to go to WP(5-8" forecast) but Monarch is supposed to get 9-14 on top of what they got earlier this week. I have 2-1 coupons. so it'll only be $30 a ticket

This was the report yesterday..

Cool, maybe calling them "cheapies" wasn't fair. They were much less expensive than anything else really.

But yeah, Rick and I exchanged a few emails and he was super cool. I think it's neat that he was on top of replies to me and could help with everything so quickly.

Damnit, I wish i could say yes, but we have other plans. If somebody else doesn't take Wes up on this and I find out they were even remotely considering it, I'll kick 'em in the crotch for not doing it.

Oh my. If I wasn't totally slammed, I would totally jump on this. Wait. I'm totally considering this. How late can I stay up writing code and still function? Oh my. Totally on the fence. Arrrrrggggggggg!!!!!!!!!! What time are you leaving? Could you pick me up? No. I can't. Yes. I can. No. I can't. Damnit. The temptation.

Gotta leave like 6am sharp (or earlier). I can meet you at the park -n ride on 285.

I usually get 1-3 days like this a season at monarch. Last year I went there on a day they called 21" overnight. It was retarded deep in bounds. Few places close to home get nice big dumps like this..

with the wind it'll ski way deeper than 9-14

no problem with the time as i'm used to dawn patrolling. only problem is we've only got one car. can't leave my wife without wheels for the day, especially on short notice. she'd kill me. the pic on TGR though... oh my. looks like so much fun. enjoy yourself. maybe i can catch you next time.

I'll be interested to hear how that board mod performs, particularly when your connected and heading down the hill. I've got an old Burton in the basement that might be ripe for a conversion like this. :)

Ha! Nice!

Our adventure was interesting.

Heading up friday night we were greeted with 40mph winds and -10 degree temps. it was pretty brutal especially since the sled we were pulling ended up weighing close to 60 pounds. about 3 miles in and at about midnight we bailed and decided to try again saturday morning. Saturday morning was successful. we made it the 6.5 miles in to boreas pass and had a nice night. This morning the wind finally died down for the way out.

The split board climbed really well with the skins. Didn't slide that well, but thats ok. Didn't get any snow to ride down on. we were on the windward side of the mountains with very little snow cover.
