I'd like to pick up a FZJ80 as a second car for my wife. Trying to coordinate my schedule, her schedule and the girls' is getting to be a bit much with just my FJ. I'd like to try and keep it between 4-6k if possible. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Keep an eye on the craigslist highlights threads (there are two), if nothing else...

Here's the Craigslist search tool (http://www.themccumbers.com/States.htm), works great. Happy Hunting. ;)

Pretty rare to find with cloth interior like that, actually looks pretty nice! most are leather. Do you even care about lockers? that one doesn't have them, but if you plan to steal this from your wife and wheel it some day, then lockers may want to make the list of must haves....

But man for that money, hard to go wrong, to do it right plan on another $500 and 4 weekends to go through it and baseline everything once you get it. Only other thing I'd do on a used 80 is look for signs of headgasket failure- low coolant, funky oil under the fill cap, maybe even a compression test if you're serious. It's not if but when on those, so you could use that as negotiating power if want- it's about a $2500 event if you pay someone to do it turnkey.

Right now, not sure if I'll steal it for a project. Probably will but it'll be a few years. I should finish the FJ first. :hill:

Thanks for the tips on what to look for.

Magic Dial - Factory e-locker dial for FR/RR lockers. In those pictures you see a blank plate on the left side of the steering wheel. That is where the locker dial goes if so equipped. You want lockers?

Awesome. Thanks.

Still up in the air about the lockers. I've got the FJ to play in the dirt with right now. If we get this and I take it over in a few years for a project, I guess I could ARB lockers...

Yep...there are arguments on both sides over factory vs. ARB

What I've gathered over the years is that factory lockers are ok up to about a 35" tire, bigger than that folks tend to suggest ARBs. ARBs tend to lock quicker than the factory lockers as well. That said, ARBs will set you back a lot of :twocents: as where the premium on buying an 80 with factory lockers shouldn't add much depending...Some POs don't even have a clue what the factory lockers are for while others know very well what they have and will want extra $$ for them.

I don't recall the numbers anymore but factory lockers are actually pretty rare on a vehicle that is realtively rare as it it (i.e. there weren't 100s of thousands sold in this country)

I have a '95 FZJ that will be for sale within a few weeks. No lockers, but a 2-owner Colo. truck that I have owned since 2000. Green in color, tan leather interior, 194K miles. I'm awaiting a company car turnover deal from my brother in Denver, at which time my FZJ goes up for sale. It will be within your price range. If you don't find anything in the meantime, mine will still be here.

Clear coat peeling off all the flares, one flare hanging crooked.

Another 'Mudder looked at it and it was not so good in person.

Coolest. Thanks. Not in a hurry, so we may be talking.

No worries. Called down there this afternoon and it's gone already. Thanks for the head's up though.
