View Full Version : Mechanics (Near Downtown?)

Hi guys, I'm coming up on Cruise Moab really quickly and need to get work done on the truck. I'd usually do this stuff myself, but I won't have any time between now and CM. :whiteflag:

Close to downtown Denver would be great, but not a requirement. Talked to Robbie but he is understandably slammed.

I just need a few simple things done. Braking is uneven, hoses need replacement and the idle is a bit high. Its a Chevy motor too, which might complicate things.

Any recommendations?

How far from Curtis Park are you willing to go?

Comprehensive is up the street from me and is a good Toyota shop for maintenance. You can walk to the Evans Ave light rail station from there or if you give me a head's up I can give you lift before/after work.

I should clarify, it's about a mile from Comprehensive to a couple of LRT stations. It can be misleading when one person says "walking distance" compared to another. We walk to these stations all the time but we have a different perception.

PS. I'm happy to wrench with you to replace brake lines, pads and bleed brakes. Easy stuff.

Thanks! I'll take a look at them as well. I'd normally take you up on the offer, but I don't have a lot of time before Moab to wrench. Just want to make it there sane and in one piece :)

So I talked to the people at the Toy Shop and they recommended Penn Garage on Ogden to work on the Chevy motor. Bus goes directly to the office from there, so that's perfect. Spoke with Terry who seemed pretty friendly.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Mancinelli's on Logan and Speer has always treated me right. Not close to LRT but they can shuttle you to and from work.

Terry at Penn did a great job. Perhaps a bit on the pricey side (I ended up doing some of it myself anyway to save money), but the truck is like a new machine! Sorted out a very long list of engine swap and age-related issues, and it runs better than it ever has since I've had it. Noticeably more torque on the bottom end, hesitation is gone, idle is back to normal, and braking is MUCH better. Still trying to sort out the GM ECU that doesn't want to connect to diagnostic software, but I guess that can wait for another day (and more $$).

In any case, I feel MUCH better about taking it to Moab, and with any used car (especially one with a swap) it was probably a good idea to get it to the mechanic to sort out the things I'd miss or just didn't know about. I still have a bit of a list to do myself, but now its MUCH more manageable.
