I'm thinking about building a cage for my 80 and wanted to get some input. The cage will be built out of 1.75" DOM and will have to have a total of 4 disconnects- "A" & "B" posts: http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/ID-Tube-Clamp_p_1467.html. I think that this will be the only way I can pull the cage out the back and do a final weld/paint. Furthermore, I'll have to use some metal plate to skirt around the dash, similar to this:http://shop.poisonspyder.com/JK-4-Door-Trail-Cage-Kit-Bolt-Together-p/18-18-010.htm. Also might be considering a 12" bob in the future to get rid of some over hang. Let the input rip!!!

So this is an inner cage then, not an outer? What kind of action are you planning for here?

You might speak with Slee. They did a cage in a 100 series a few years ago. They might have some advice. I'm sure A-pilar is the the weak point in the factory design. Looks like overkill and really heavy, is is necessary to cage the rear? How many people do you plan to have in the truck? Are you gonna cut the top off to make it convertible? Are you planning on an event that has a requirement of cage?

Basically looking to keep the family safe first and foremost. Know idea what kind of action but knowing me I'll push it to it's limits. Top is going to remain in place & I think that the added wieght might be 200-300 lbs.
I think this layout for spreaders might be better:
