99 4Runner MT 3rz w/33x12.5 Grabbers 4.30 Rear E-Locker , Aussie Front
Short of buying a 4Runner with a 3.4 and switching my mods over, how much difference going up to 5.29/ or 5.71 as far as hauling a small trailer/ATV will there be? Gas mileage is killing me even without the trailer.
Any thoughts? If so, any recommendations on who I can call to set up new gears for me?

5.71s are pushing it. You will have one pinion tooth engaging really. Setup becomes critical and even then it is questionable IMHO. 5.29s are OK. You should notice a bit difference. With 4.30s are you running a slushbox (auto)?
Robbie (PowderPig) can set you up and also advise.

5spd manual... the 5.71 are by gearinstalls in AZ by Zuk.. good reviews, but I'm like you and think there are too big/small depending on how you look at it...

Your RPM range will be too high for highway cruising with both gearsets. With the 3rz 5.29 would be ok but you will have fuel economy loss due to high rpms and 70+mph speeds. 4.88 would be ideal, a little higher RPMs then stock but not too bad.
What kind of fuel milage are you getting empty?
I can do installs on the clamshell (front) as most people will not work on those.

Thanks Brian... With at 3rz..there is no such thing as highway cruisin.. with the 2" body lift and 3" suspension and tires..it labors all the time..Is going from 4.30 to 4.88 worth the expense...or should I just get a 3.4/ 4Runner...
If you were to do the front...i would need the gears.. and the set up kit? ... I have an Aussie in it.. would that make a difference.. what is my balpark cost?
