View Full Version : HotDogger install on FJ60...need ideas, tips...

Thanks to LexusBen and Mr. "Hotdogger" himself for the writeup on the installs in the 80 and 100. good stuff.
Anyone put there's in a 60, yet? I wanna put it in after work this week, but don't have a plan as of now.
If no one has done it, what are the 'things to keep in mind'? Proximity to heat source, mounting angle/placement, etc?

Proximity to heat source is positively correlated with cooking time. Mine is 4" off the manifold, and corn dogs take 3-4 hours to get real hot, even in the summer. But they're less likely to burn, so there's always a trade-off.
Also keep in mind where your drips are going to go- preferably on a heat shield, not the manifold itself. There's a potential for cracking that you want to minimize. And I chose to mount mine level, so I can bake w/ sauces, etc. and have fewer drips. Finally, make sure you can get your stuff out fairly easily, with gloves on. No tricky hose clamps or anything, no laying on the ground... you want easy access. HTH...

Depends on if you want to just heat items like corn dogs, burritos, taquitos, bbq, etc. or really cook. I put mine on top of the engine but not directly mounted to a high heat source. Cooking raw brats was fruitless but it warms nicely.
If you really want to cook.. on the downpipe or manifold anywhere else is just heating.
