I picked up a 78 FJ40 a few weeks ago and the PO handed me these "brackets" and said he does not know what they are for. There were wrapped in japanese newpaper. From memory, the length is about 12" long and about 1" wide. Anyone know?

yep, they are soft top door brackets

Not soft door...they're for the safety straps used when the doors are off

What does the side that attaches to the striker look like? Just curious. Is it an eye bolt and hook or something?

And let's see some pics of that new '78 40!

the straps attach to the side of the b pillar with a special bolt

for anyone interested, i think aatlas was reproducing the brackets. early models didn't use the brackets, they had an eyebolt on the dash
