He apparently did a cardboard canoe, too. BTW, this is not regular appliance box cardboard he's using, but it is most definitely cardboard. I think the only issue that would need a solution would be the braking surfaces.

Actually, the canoe was what inspired him to build the bike but he didn't build it.

Pretty cool idea...But I'm guessing the amount of labor he put into building that bike would cost a bit more than $9. May material cost is only $9 assuming you can find the right card board but I wonder how much he'd charge to build a bike for people :)

Cheap bikes are being used in many places to spur economic and political changes. Project Rwanda is one that immediately came to mind.
